“Reflecting on my putrid existence has never been so amusing.” – The $tatus Faction

Opening on the First Friday of September, Gabriel Lacktman, aka “ThirdOne,” of The $tatus Faction presents a new solo exhibition created exclusively for Kansas City.  FML/LOL, the second street art show that doesn’t take itself too seriously, widely celebrates the doom of modern society through satire and dark comedy.

Lacktman’s new body of work is an explorative focus on society’s often hypocritical means of problem solving, ranging from sardonic, witty, slapstick, sarcastic to outright quirky cultural references. Developing a mixture of traditional painting, video, and sculpture, FML/LOL promises to be an inquisitive and light-hearted showcase of work.

Lacktman, one of the founding members of the talented The $tatus Faction (T$F) crew, is a full-time graphic designer and a well-respected graffiti artist. T$F,  based in Hollywood, California and established in 2007, is a well-known and respected multi-dimensional collective comprised of artists, designers, and elite creative individuals. Lacktman’s graffiti work while with T$F, can be found in Florida, Boston, Los Angeles and now Kansas City. The artist holds a BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and his work has appeared in Juxtapoz, Beverly Hills Lifestyle Magazine, L.A. Canvas Magazine, Fecal Face, Nylon Magazine, Brand X and L.A. Taco. His art has been featured at Warner Bros’ Records,  Maximillian Gallery at The Sunset Marquis Hollywood, The House of Blues Sunset Blvd., Bomit, Crewest Gallery and Hold-Up Art, Los Angeles within this past year. He has collaborated on projects with TOMS Shoes, Warner Bros Records, ACTIVE Ride Shop, Red Bull and Dangerbird Records to name a few. In addition to self-publishing a book in 2010, Lacktman was featured in Stay Up! Los Angeles Street Art by Jim Daichendt which was released in 2012 and will be available for purchase and signing at the upcoming Kansas City exhibition. Coinciding with the opening of FML/LOL, Lacktman’s first auto-biographical writing will be published in Art Education Journal’s September 2013 issue.

Kultured Chameleon Gallery, located in the heart of Kansas City’s Crossroad’s Art District, is the Midwest’s premiere street art gallery & graffiti shop. The gallery showcases the best established and emerging urban talent including graffiti writers, street artists, muralists, and urban designers. Owned and operated by Lee Burgess, Kultured Chameleon strives to continually bring innovative exhibitions and workshops to the city’s gallery scene and it’s First Friday tradition.  The gallery, only a year into it’s existence, is already redesigning the city center’s landscape via it’s “Art Alley” mural initiative featuring Kansas City’s most talented graffiti artists. As a means to  solidify Kansas City as the hub of urban art in the Midwest, Kultured Chameleon is excited to be a part of Lacktman’s LA to KC story by presenting FML/LOL .

FML/LOL is curated by Wil Atkinson and Jessica Jones of The Rynham. The duo hail from Los Angeles, California where they specialized in curating & producing solo exhibitions, career development and brand management exclusively for street artists. The Rynham continues this focus in Kansas City with an emphasis on bridging art and artists with the public via new & creative outlets. They  aim to enhance local talent in innovative ways as well as bring worldwide talents to Kansas City to broaden and strengthen the city’s reputation in the street art world. Atkinson & Jones curated The $tatus Faction’s 2012 solo exhibition I’m With Stupid in Hollywood, CA and is excited to be working with Lacktman on his solo exhibition FML/LOL.

The Opening Night of the FML/LOL will feature a panel discussion on grafitti and street art as an artistic career at 5:00pm. The panel will feature artist Lacktman, Kultured Chameleon Gallery owner Lee Burgess and The Rynham’s Wil Atkinson, curator and creative producer.
